Sarah Ortegon ~ Eastern Shoshone-Northern Arapaho
Sarah never had a chance to meet both sets of her grandparents so her only connection to her Native American roots were those summer visits to the Wind River Indian Reservations each year. While on the reservation she attended Pow wows with her relatives and sparked an interest in traditional Jingle Dress dancing which she still participates in today at gatherings. She says her dancing brings great healing when she steps out on the dance arena and that special feeling is something to hold on to. “Prayer and my beliefs are a strong influence in my life. I am still learning my traditional ways, they are part of what keeps me going,” Sarah said.
