    68th Anniversary Iwo Jima Flag Raising Ceremony at Ira H. Hayes American Legion Post in Arizona On Saturday, February 23, Ira H. Hayes American Legion Post 84 in Sacaton, Arizona, will hold a celebration to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the raising of the American flag by U.S. forces on Iwo Jima. The image of the Marines raising the flag, captured on film by Associated Press photojouralist Joe Rosenthal and immortalized in a monument created by sculptor Felix de Weldon (the original of which is currently on the auction block), has become one of the most iconic military representations in American history.
